Materials Scientist

An immediate opportunity exists for a hands-on candidate with strong technical and communication skills to support product development and drive continuous improvement activities.

About the Position

The ideal candidate should have experience working on multi-stage projects as well as understanding of typical fuel cell/electrolyzer materials and trouble-shooting issues.


  • Develop new ideas in fuel cell and electrolyzer materials, devices and processing.

  • Identify novel electrode structures with improved performance, greater reliability, and lower cost.

  • Characterize electrocatalysts and membranes including electrochemical performance screening, fundamental electrochemical properties, and microscopic analysis.

  • Support manufacturing production line and service group through root cause analysis of material and process deviations and investigation of field failures.

  • Assist in writing proposals for new efforts on materials-related topics.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability in utilizing electrochemical methods to understand "property-performance" relationship of materials in energy applications.

  • Experience in characterization of fuel cell/electrolyzer or related materials.

  • Demonstrated skills in major electrochemical and material characterization methods.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to balance multiple tasks including working under pressure and meeting deadlines.

  • Demonstrated hands-on research and problem-solving with strong analytical skills.

  • Experience with electrochemical cell design and prototyping.

  • Experience in journal quality papers and proposal writing.

Education and/or Experience:

  • PhD in Electrochemistry or PhD in Materials Science or Chemistry/Chemical Engineering with a strong emphasis in electrochemistry
